Emma Sellers, MS, currently serves as the Chief Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer for PA Education Association (PAEA). Emma worked in higher education for 16 years, serving in a number of capacities at two institutions. Emma served as the inaugural Director of Multicultural Affairs in her most recent work in higher education. In this capacity, Emma was a member of the University Leadership team and worked with undergraduate, graduate, health science and seminary programs across the University’s three campuses to meet their diversity goals and needs. This involved recruitment and retention of students of color, faculty hiring, curriculum review and development, community engagement, and resolving issues and policy violations of diversity, equity, and inclusion that arose on campus.
Prior to joining PAEA, Emma served as the inaugural DEI Coordinator for the City of Concord in Concord, NC. In this capacity, Emma worked directly with the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and City leadership to develop DEI practices and policies that focused on internal procedures and external policies. During her time with the City, Emma worked to establish DEI protocols for the hiring process, conducted monthly DEI trainings for 1200 city employees, led a 24 member community organization that evaluated all city policies in nearly 20 departments to ensure equity and inclusion and worked with community businesses and organizations to create partnerships to reach the city’s DEI goals. Additionally, Emma served as the Title VI coordinator for the city and ensured compliance with all federal policy.
Emma was promoted to the Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer at PAEA. In this capacity, Emma serves as a key member of the leadership team and leads efforts to establish a vision and strategy for the organization’s EDI work aligned with PAEA’s overall strategic priorities and direction, its culture, mission, vision, and values.
