Rosa M. Solórzano, MPH, MD, a native from Colombia, received her medical degree in Medellin Colombia; and her master's degree in Public Health, with a concentration in Behavioral Science and Health Education, from Emory University. Currently, she is a Consulting Associate for the Duke University School of Nursing serving as lead instructor for Medical Spanish and Cultural Competence courses. Dr. Solórzano also works as the coordinator and faculty for the Inter-professional elective and Outreach- Exploring Medicine in Other Cultures-Honduras under the direction of Dr. Dennis Clements from the School of Medicine. Dr. Solórzano was part of the SER Hispano Research project as a member of the Recruitment and Engagement team under Principal Investigator Dr. Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda.
Dr. Solórzano also holds appointments at Duke University School of Medicine Master in Biomedical Science and as well as with Duke University Romance Studies Spanish Language Program where she teaches a course on Spanish, Health and Culture in the Latino Community.
Dr. Solorzano has very close ties to the Durham Community and El Centro Hispano. She serves as an advisory board member of the Duson Community Health Improvement Partnership Program at DUSON. She was an executive member of the Board of directors for the LATIN-19 (Latinx Advocacy Team & Interdisciplinary Network for COVID-19) in Durham since its inception in March 2020, participating in the community vaccination, testing, education and advocacy for COVID 19.
Dr. Solorzano is the co-founder of TeenSmart International, an organization formed after 10 years of research on ‘Risk and Resilience’, seeking to promote resilience and prevent risky health behaviors among youth in Central America.
