Mesa, Arizona, United States
Raashmi Krishnasamy, MPH (she/her/hers) is a first year osteopathic medical student at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA). As an aspiring change maker, she seeks to bridge gaps between clinical care, policy, and implementation to attain health justice. Prior to attending medical school, she worked in Quality Improvement at Unity Health Care, the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the nation’s capital. She worked closely with health clinics across the District to increase cancer screening rates among the vulnerable communities. In addition to this, Raashmi served as Co-Chair of the Social Mission Alliance's Advocacy Advisory Council and Advisor for the Social Mission Alliance Student Assembly. In both of these roles, she led advocacy efforts to advance equity in health professions education. Through her work with the Student Assembly, she has created an interdisciplinary community to empower learners with advocacy and organizing tools and to support them as they navigate their own journeys. Currently, Raashmi serves as a member of the SMA Health Justice Council, where she continues to steer the agenda for the Student Assembly. She also was recently elected to serve as the President of ATSU-SOMA’s Student Osteopathic Medical Association Chapter. In this role aims to advance social mission within and beyond organized medicine by serving as a voting delegate to the SOMA House of Delegates and submitting resolutions to the American Osteopathic Association.
A strong believer in community organization, she worked closely with community partners and the Prince Georges’ County Council to advocate for the successful passage of the first-of-its-kind Healthy Kids Meal Bill. Raashmi holds an MPH in Community Oriented Primary Care from the Milken Institute School of Public Health and holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from Carnegie Mellon University. She is excited to continue her journey to become a community-based physician advocate.
