Dr. Brittany Baker is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director in the Office of Program Evaluation, at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, NC. She received her BSN in 2008 from Bowie State University in Bowie, MD; an MSN with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration in 2012 from Duke University and her DNP from ECU in 2018. She maintains her certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and practices clinically in occupational health. Dr. Baker has been a nurse educator for 7 years and enjoys teaching in undergraduate pre-licensure and graduate advanced practice programs.
Her research and scholarship interests include vaccination uptake, health disparities across various areas of healthcare, program evaluation, and student success. She has collaborated on several health disparities research projects including trauma-informed care for African American women, COVID-19 vaccination uptake in disadvantaged communities, and most recently serving as a faculty champion in the education of students to provide medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD), an effort to target disparities in MOUD access in Eastern North Carolina. She was a participant at the Inaugural Emerging Nurse Leaders Academy at Vanderbilt School of Nursing, in November 2022 and a recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from the Beta Nu (ECU) chapter of Sigma in spring 2023.
Dr. Baker is committed to fostering safe and inclusive learning environments and quality in nursing education. She believes that this is a critical time to commit to unwavering leadership in health equity, as we innovatively work to meet the needs of those we serve. In her free time, Dr. Baker enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, and traveling with her husband of 10 years (Terrence) and their two daughters, Kamryn (7) and Brooklynn (2).
