Hetty Cunningham, M.D.
Dr. Cunningham is a primary care pediatrician who lives and works in Harlem. She is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). Her clinical and research interests include integration of behavioral health interventions in primary care settings, health equity focused medical education, and community-focused primary medical services for historically marginalized children and families.
Since arriving at CUIMC over 25 years ago, her focus has been on teaching humanism, service learning, cultural competency, implicit bias, and anti-racism towards excellence in science and care. She has the extraordinary opportunity to work on systemic anti-racist faculty development across disciplines throughout CUIMC as Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons Inaugural Director of Equity and Justice in Curricular Affairs and Associate Vice Chair for Education and the Learning Environment in the Department of Pediatrics at CUIMC. She can be seen as expert discussant on the Smithsonian Channel film The Color of Care, by acclaimed director Yance Ford, produced by Oprah Winfrey.
