Proposal: Training Interprofessional health equity leaders for public service career: An OMH and GW Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Workforce Equity Collaboration Portela,Maria, Chen, Candice, Jenkins,Andrea, Prerez, Simone
The Office of Minority Health (OMH) Health Equity Leadership Development Initiative (HELDI) at the Mullan Institute aims to develop and support future federal leaders in public health and health equity, with a focus on recruiting individuals from groups that have been underrepresented in federal government leadership positions. The program is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and led in partnership with the Office of Minority Health. For more information on the OMH HELDI . This program, house within the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity and in partnership with the Social Mission Alliance. Program draws inspiration in content and framework from other successful health policy and health equity fellowship programs, including most notably Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity, as well as Residency Fellowship in Health Policy and Commonwealth Fund Mongan in Minority Health Policy. Leadership and input from diverse programs have been critical to programs success. Fellowship includes leadership training, health policy and health equity trainings as well as extensive coaching and mentoring as well hands on experiential learning during a placement within an HHS site for a year. First cohort completed the fellowship in June 2023. 67% of the cohort had secure a federal government role by July 2023 and 100% of the fellows that applied for a federal government role obtained a position.
We suggest for consideration, pairing RFHP abstract, AFHE abstract and this in a joint oral presentation. I dont have a confirmed trainee speaker yet but have shared with the previous fellows the intention that one of them co-presents during the conference if accepted and it was well received.
